Grants for Fiscal Year 2012

The Women's Board of The Johns Hopkins Hospital is very pleased to announce the following FY 12 grant awards which total $563,776.

  • Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine ~ to upgrade and expand the existing SonoSite S-series System for large vessel evaluation to include bedside, noninvasive evaluation of heart, lungs, and abdominal organs.
  • Dermatology ~ to purchase an LCD projector and patient education materials for use in the community outreach program of the Ethnic Skin Program.
  • GYN/OB ~ to purchase a Smith and Nephew Truclear Hysteroscopic Morcellator, a faster and safer method for removing fibroids vaginally.
  • Neurology ~ to purchase RealEyes Binocular Video Goggles for evaluating patients in the Dizziness Clinic
  • Ophthalmology ~ to purchase a portable RetCam which will allow minimally invasive, less stressful evaluation of infants in the NICU, children in the OR, and patients at the bedside.
  • Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery ~ to purchase portable polysomnogram devices for identification of patients at risk for perioperative complications due to obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Pathology ~ to purchase a CheckPoint Assay system which will reduce time to reporting of antimicrobial resistance among Gram negative bacteria isolated from patients at Johns Hopkins.
  • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation ~ to purchase portable musculoskeletal ultrasound devices which will enable better classification of the extent of injury or pathology and help determine the appropriate course of treatment.
  • Psychiatry ~ to renovate the Jefferson House Domiciliary Residence kitchen for patients in the Johns Hopkins Eating Disorders Partial Hospital Program.
  • School of Medicine ~ to purchase a Tetherless Pediatric Simulator for training healthcare teams in preparation for the move to the new hospitals as well as routine transfers and in situ situations in the clinical environment.
  • School of Nursing ~ to purchase a SimNewB, a new-born manikin, for use in the School’s maternal health programs, specifically the OB/Pediatrics and Midwifery programs.
  • Surgery ~ to purchase a MultiLab LHS-TI Vascular System for assessing perfusion following arterial reconstruction.
  • Scholarships ~ one full academic scholarship each to the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.
